1000 mile service

First thing to do was flush the coolant out as it was looking a bit brown. Easiest way was to disconnect the bottom radiator hose. Removing the nose improved access and also allowed me to brush off all the flies that were stuck to the radiator.
A good way to flush the system out is to connect a garden hose-pipe to the hose that connects to the expansion tank and turn it on. Allow the water to flow through the system until it runs clear.
The expansion bottle had a fair amount of sludge in the bottom which was soon cleaned out.
A second trip to Halfords was in order to get one of these, an oil filter remover. It was impossible to unscrew without such a tool and well worth the 3.99 price.
The running-in oil was drained after warming up the engine. As can be seen it was almost black! The new stuff is a nice golden colour.
The fuel filter just before the electric fuel pump had a few bits in it so I figured it would be a sensible idea to clean it out. I've got one that can be taken appart for cleaning which is a good idea.
