Poly Bushes

The poly bushes I used were purchased from Rally Design as they were much cheaper than Superflex and they look funkier in yellow/red compared with dark blue. Rally Design do 2 different types of bushes, "sport" and "race". After discussing my requirements (mainly road with some track use) they recommended I go for "sport" for the track control arm bushes and "race" for the roll-bar. Part numbers as follows:

DescriptionPart No.No. of
Sierra outer TCAPB008x2
Sierra inner TCA (10mm)PB010x2
Golf Mk1 front lower TCAPB023Rx2

Here's a pic of the old rubber bushes and as you can see they are begining to fall apart. This was the reason I'm changing them to poly bushes.
As can be seen from this picture the new poly ones are much larger than the old ones and should last longer than I have the car at least.
Here's the new bushes installed. The anti-rollbar bushes are actually designed for a Mk1 Golf's TCA so the metal tubes that came with them were 1.3mm too big. The only solution was to get a local engineer to turn this off the end of them. The other problem is as the bushes are so hard they needed to be cut in half to insert them.
As the new bushes were so hard, inserting the wishbones into the car was not easy. My old friend Tiger Tool 1 (large mallet) was employed to knock them into position. Loads of grease was used to help keep things nice and smooth.
Here's a shot of the wishbone in place and loosly fitted. The bolts were an absolute nightmare to tighten as there is so little room to swing a spanner in the engine bay.
The final results are very pleasing as the bushes really look nice (in yellow!) and will hopefully stop the wheels diving under heavy breaking. I've fitted the the large metal washers as Ford intended: ---)0(--
